This sweet mild flavoured chocolate cake is ideal for children. For a darker fuller flavoured cake use 50g/2 oz of cocoa powder. This cake is also good source of iron.
175g/6 oz plain flour 25g/1 oz cocoa powder 150g/5 oz caster sugar 1 level tsp baking powder 1 level tsp bicarbonate of soda 150g/5 oz soft margarine 150 ml/ 1/4 of a pint milk 2 eggs 1 tbsp treacle 1/2 tsp salt
Grease and bottom line a &" (18cm) square or round tin.
Sieve dry ingredients together into a large bowl. Add remaining ingredients and beat well for 2 -3 minutes. Pour into prepared tin. Bake, on middle shelf of oven, at 150C/gas mark 2 for 1 hour.
Let the cake cool in the tinfor minutes, then turn out onto a wired rack.
Serve: Hot chocolate sauce as a dessert.
When the cake is cold, lightly dust with icing sugar or split and sandwiched together with chocolate spread.
