Makes 16 slices
200g/8oz self-raising wholemeal flour 1 x 2.5ml/½ tsp ground cloves 75g/2¾ oz butter or margarine 50g/1¾ oz light soft brown sugar 2 eggs (size 3) beaten 3 x 15ml/3 tbsp milk 2 large cooking apples, peeled, cored and chopped 150g/5½ oz Dates, chopped 40g/1½ oz Walnuts, chopped
Grease and line the base of a 27cm x 18cm (11" x 7") tin. Rub fat into the flour and cloves. Stir in the sugar. Add the beaten egg and milk and mix until smooth. Fold in the apples and dates. Turn into the prepared tin, level the surface and sprinkle with chopped walnuts. Bake at 160 degrees C, Gas Mark 3 for about 25 mins until cake is golden brown and firm to the touch. Cool and cut into 16 slices. PER SERVING 133 Kcal, fat 6.7g, saturated 2.9g, salt 0.1g, carbohydrate 16g, sugar 8.3g, fibre 1.7g
