55g/2oz bran 140g/5oz brown sugar 225g/8oz dried fruit 250ml/½ pint milk 175g/6oz self raising flour
Put bran, sugar and dried fruit into a bowl and mix thoroughly. Stir in milk. Add flour, mixing well, and pour into a well-greased 450g/1lb loaf tin. Bake at 180°C/350°F/Gas Mark 4 for one and a quarter hours. Turn out of tin and cool on a wire rack. Serve sliced with butter.
