Sausagemeat Plait

Category: Meals to Satisfy

A simple dish to prepare this looks spectacular. The tart apple flavour compliments the sausages well. Delicious hot or cold.

Servings

Serves 6

Ingredients

1 x 375g pack of ready rolled Puff pastry 350g/12oz sausagemeat 1 small onion 1 cooking apple, peeled and chopped into 2cm pieces 1 tbsp fresh thyme, chopped 1 tbsp fresh sage, chopped a good pinch of salt milk to glaze

Method

Pre-heat the oven to 220C/gas 7. In a bowl combine the sausagemeat, onion, apple, herbs and salt. Roll the pastry into a large rectangle. Place the sausagemeat mixture down the centre third of the pastry. Cut diagonal slits in the sides of the rectangle 3cms wide and dmapend their edges. Fold over the top and bottom ends of the pastry and fold the strips over the sausagemeat to form a plait, pressing down the damp edges to seal. Brush with milk. Bake in the oven for 30 minutes until golden brown. Slice and serve. Can be served hot or cold. Cook's Tip Link sausages may be used instead for sausagemeat. Run them under the cold tap and remove the skins first. You can replace the apple slices with slices of onion and peppers which makes a colourful and delicious change.
