Scientists reveal how to make the perfect toast!
Published: 22 July 2011
Brits munch their way through more than 94 million slices of toast daily but many of them are spoilt by burning or undercooking. So scientists have come up with a formula for what they say would create the perfect toast.
The bread should be pale and seeded and 14mm thick. It should be 3°C when it is taken out of the fridge. The dial on a 900 watt toaster needs to be set to 5 out of 6 in order to achieve the perfect temperature of 154°C. Then it needs to be cooked for exactly three minutes and thirty six seconds. It should be a “builders brew” colour.
You must also be sure to warm the plate to 45°C to avoid condensation underneath the toast. Once it pops out of the toaster, you must butter it immediately with 0.44 grams of butter per square inch and slice it diagonally.
