30 years on, the prawn sandwich is still a firm favourite

Prawn mayonnaise has been the nation’s favourite sandwich filling for 30 years according to research by Marks & Spencer, which sells on average 124,000 prawn sandwiches a week.
The filling is also the most popular choice for customers shopping in Waitrose and is the second most popular choice in Tesco’s where only chicken salad sandwiches outsell them. Six million packs of prawn mayonnaise sandwiches are sold in the UK each year. The research also showed that Britons are creatures of habit with nearly half of all customers eating the same sandwich every day. Seven out of ten people felt that they were stuck in a sandwich rut.
