Salt in bread calculator launched for craft bakers
Published: 12 July 2010
Bread is an important part of our diets and a good source of nutrients, but recently, there has been some concern about how much salt it contains.
As a result, the Food Standards Agency (FSA), together with the National Association of Master Bakers and Norfolk County Council have produced a calculator to help craft bakers work out how much salt is in their final product and how close they are to reaching the FSA’s voluntary salt reduction target. They can also view a guide which suggests ways in which they can meet the voluntary salt levels of 1g of salt per 100g of the final product by 2012.
Adults should aim to eat no more than 6g of salt per day and the figure is less for children.
