Frequently Asked Questions
The Glycaemic Index Q&As
Will eating low GI foods prevent diabetes?
Q:
Will eating low GI foods prevent diabetes?
A:
No. Controlled GI meals and snacks will help manage blood sugar
levels but will not prevent diabetes. There is no research evidence
to suggest that high GI foods can increase the risk of developing
diabetes. Debate about the role of the Glycaemic Index in helping
the management of diabetes is still ongoing. The American
Diabetic Association does not accept that it has a role, although
other organisations for diabetics are more positive.
